When purchasing a hot tub, you’ll no doubt want to ensure that you’re spending more time enjoying your hot tub than maintaining it.
Many people believe that hot tubs involve a lot of upkeep, but one of the joys of investing in a Hydropool self-cleaning hot tub is the fact that a hot tub ozonator is built into the Pure Water Technology, making it simple to keep your hot tub’s water clean and fresh at all times.
Let’s begin our journey into the revolutionary and nearly chemical-free spa ozonator technology.
What does a hot tub ozonator do?
A hot tub ozonator helps to keep your hot tub’s water as clean as possible. It’s a natural cleaning agent for your hot tub, which means you need fewer chemicals such as chlorine and bromine which can cause irritation to the skin. It’s still able to cleanse the hot tub water very effectively, oxidising water contaminants including urine, soap, make-up, perfume, saliva and sun cream, amongst other things.

How does an ozone generator work?
An ozonator works in conjunction with the chlorine and bromine used to clean the hot tub to sanitise the water, but due to its UV light technology, it uses less of these chemicals.
In a Hydropool self-cleaning hot tub, an ozonator is built in, and the water passes through the patented Micro Cell where it’s treated with ozone. It then runs through a UV light chamber, similar to most water treatment systems, and the water is exposed to a high volume of UVC light.
The combination of the UV and the ozone forms the Hydropool Pure Water System by creating active oxygen. This oxidises 99 per cent of all contaminants in the water and removes any calcium or BioFilm inside the pipes.
This not only allows for fewer chemicals to be used, but it can also reduce hot tub maintenance time and increase the lifespan of your ozonated hot tub, too.
What are the pros and cons of hot tub ozonators?
There many benefits to a hot tub ozonator, which include:
- It’s a natural cleaning agent. Ozone protects the Earth, so you can rest assured it will protect your hot tub water just as well.
- Using fewer chemicals can help to reduce skin and eye irritations.
- There are less unpleasant odours when using ozonator technology because fewer chemicals are involved.
- Hot tubs with an ozonator require less maintenance. Because the water is cleaner, many ozonated hot tub owners only change the water in their hot tubs every 7 to 12 months, compared to every 3 months without.
- Helps with the longevity of your hot tub’s lifespan by cleaning the build-up in its pipes.
One thing to consider is that too much ozone can have a negative effect on the respiratory system.
However, because ozonator technology is built into your Hydropool hot tub, its quick diagnostic system will confirm that everything is in working order so you can rest assured it is safe.
